Years 2 - 6Writers Club is a fun and engaging creative writing program for children in years 2-6.
Students in the Writers Club develop important language skills and build their creative confidence in a warm and nurturing environment. Importantly, they gain an understanding of the fundamentals of writing that will see them through their primary school years and beyond.
Packed with educational games and taught by experienced teachers in a small-group online format, the Writers Club is unlike any other online writing program you’ve seen before.
Feedback is built into the program to help your child improve their skills.
A maximum of six students in each class to provide individualized attention.
Choose your day and time and join the interactive class from the comfort of home.
15 minute meeting with the teacher each term to discuss your child’s progress.
Experienced and skilled teachers trained in the fun, engaging and successful FunFox Way.
Session recordings to allow students to review their class content if they wish.
Each term, your child will receive a pack of worksheets for their lessons. The engaging worksheets are an integral part of the program.
Our students are:
Aged 6-12 (School years 2-6)
Located all over Australia and the world
Culturally and linguistically diverse
Some of our students find writing challenging and they join the Writers Club for extra support to improve their skills. For other students, writing is their favourite subject or hobby and the Writers Club is another way for them to hone and practise their writing.
Your child will learn:
Punctuation, spelling and grammar - the foundations of writing!
How to create new characters, settings and plots.
Different genres, such as poetry, narrative and autobiography.
How to express themselves concisely and articulately.
New words to build their vocabulary.
Ways to use language to persuade or create emotion.
They will do this through:
Fun games and activities.
Group work with other students.
Individual writing tasks.
Our Writers Club classes are online only. This gives you greater flexibility to fit the classes around your child’s other extracurricular activities. Our students join us from all over the world, including New Zealand, the United Kingdom and South Korea. Not only is your child learning important writing skills and improving their writing ability, they also have the opportunity to connect with peers from other countries. This value-add wouldn’t be possible in a face-to-face class setting.
Throughout the year, we also run some face-to-face (and virtual) community events. These events help to bring our likeminded community together.
The Writers Club is an ongoing, long-term program. Each term costs $462. We charge this as three monthly payments of $154 paid by direct debit. You’ll provide your direct debit details as part of the enrolment process so you don’t need to worry about making payments throughout the term. Unless you cancel for the following term, your direct debit payments will continue. There is also a once-off registration fee of AUD $75.
The fee includes weekly live and interactive zooms with a FunFox trained teacher and all class recordings. During the school holidays, the students can also join our relaxed open office hours to focus on revision or other student needs.
Yes! The Writers Club was developed by a team led by an Australian teacher to ensure that the program will support and align with your child’s classroom learning. While the program aligns with the Australian curriculum, if you live outside of Australia, you’re also welcome to join the Writers Club.
We limit each writing tutoring class to a minimum of three and a maximum of six students. From experience we know this is the perfect number to allow for a variety of learning tools, such as small group work. This class size is also ideal for individual feedback from the teacher and opportunities for collaboration between the students.
Each week at FunFox follows a similar format but no two lessons are the same! Your child will complete their lesson preparation before their lesson. This ensures they can actively participate in their class. Then, they’ll join the Zoom lesson and spend one hour in a small group, teacher-led class.
We provide all the materials that your child will need for their lessons. In the classes we play games, do practical activities and share our work with each other. We also provide process-based feedback that helps the students to continually improve.
Once the term has started, we close off new enrolments for our classes. Each lesson throughout the term builds on the previous weeks so it’s not fair to the student to try and catch up.
However, in this case we do offer 1:1 tutoring, at a fee of AUD $60 per hour, for the remainder of the term. This 1:1 attention ensures that your child will be ready to join the Writers Club the following term.
In the Writers Club we teach technical elements of writing such as punctuation, spelling and grammar. We help the students to broaden their vocabulary and learn new ways of creative expression through words. Depending on their school level, we also introduce them to different genres. They learn how to create characters, settings and plots, and bring it all together in a concise and articulate way.
Some students join the Writers Club because they are already strong writers and want to challenge themselves. Others do so because they need more support than their classroom teacher can provide. This is why our small class sizes are so important. Our teachers take the time to get to know your child. They assess where they’re at with their writing and tailor their activities and feedback to address any issues or challenges. Depending on their school level, we also introduce them to different genres. They learn how to create characters, settings and plots, and bring it all together in a concise and articulate way.
Yes! Before the start of each term, we run a free trial writing tutoring class that’s just like a Writers Club class. The trial classes have more students in them than a regular Writers Club class but that’s the only difference.
You can sign up for our next trial class here.
