Why Does Your Voice Matter?

Isra Nasser - Silver Award

“A beautiful voice is a gift that can be used to do good and make the world a better place.” - Owls Quotes

Voice is an important element in our life, through which we deliver our ideas and thought processes to the outside world.  The human voice has the ability to express emotions and our voice gives our opinion a platform with unique perspectives. There are numerous compelling reasons why our voice matters, and I would like to share a few.

Our voice is a powerful weapon. An evil voice can start a war, and a good voice can bring peace. German President Hitler used his voice and convinced his people to start a war, whereas American President John Kennedy persuaded his people to go to space using his voice. Such is the power of voice, through which we can be either constructive or destructive.

Secondly, our voice characterises every person as they have a unique opinion. “No two voices are the same, each voice has something different to say,” states Wafiya from UNICEF. This potent quote explains to us that we are all unique and diverse and that none of us, not even twins, are the same. Therefore, our voice matters as every person has a unique opinion and belief.

In addition, our voice is important because it expresses our needs and emotions. As my mom always says, “Use your voice if you want something. Choose your words carefully and use your voice cautiously. You could either make or break someone’s day.” This substantiates that we should speak really carefully. Thus, it matters because it expresses our needs and emotions.

Next, our voice helps direct our future. In life, you will have moments where you have to stand up for yourself, if you don’t, you will look back and regret it. However, if you stand up and speak, you may shape your future the way you want. In conclusion, our voice helps depict our future.

Moreover, our voice is incumbent as we can promote changes and inspire others in a rightful manner. I remember when I got bullied, I stood up to tell the teacher, others in a similar situation were inspired, and raised their voice. As a result, all the bullies faced consequences. In short, we could promote change and inspire others with our voices.

Finally, our voices shouldn’t be suppressed. When it is bottled up, it can result in disastrous outcomes. Such as, once in Tunisia, a man was struggling to make ends meet. He tried to speak to the government officials, but no one listened. In sheer desperation, he set himself on fire. When a suppressed voice is sound, you hear an agonising voice of someone setting himself alight.

In a nutshell, our voice matters in numerous ways and in all aspects of life. Such as we could promote change and inspire others, our voice is our future, it expresses our needs and emotions, every person has a unique opinion and our voice matters as it can be used as a puissant tool. I would like to end my essay with a suggestion:

Every week, someone from every class (at school) will get the chance to be on the platform/stage and use their voice if there ever is an issue. Not only will they speak up, but they will learn the importance of speaking up and the issue will be solved.
